Camp Descriptions (Ages 10-17)

The Old Pro Series – 9am-4pm (Ages 10-14): Join the “Old Pros” in these week long specialized camps taught by local professionals. Each camp will focus on specific topics to help your young actor or artist develop their skills and foster their passion. Each week there will be a theme to guide the activities, crafts, scenes, scripts, songs and games for that week of camp. Full day campers will be able to experience two themes in one day for a double dose of fun. Morning camps have a theater arts focus and afternoon camps work with visual arts. Final Showcase on Fridays for every camp!

Ages 10-14: Old Pros Series – Full and Half Day Camps (9 AM – 4 PM)

Week 1: June 22 – June 26

Broadway Now – 9am-Noon – This camp will be for the Broadway lover! Sing, dance and act scenes from your favorite current Broadway hits!  This camp will sure to get your young performer ready for the next big show. The Friday’s Show and Share will include full ensemble dance numbers from our favorite Broadway Musicals!

Time Travelers: Art Sampler Class – 1-4pm – This week of camp will be jam-packed with arts and crafts. Each day campers will travel to a new decade and practice different visual art forms including drawing, painting, mixed media, sewing, photography, and more! Due to COVID-19 this camp will no longer be offered this summer.

Week 2: June 29 – July 3

Fractured Fairytales – 9am-Noon – This camp is for kids with lots of CHARACTER! This week we will learn character development, practice voice and body language, and even talk in accents! Campers will use classic fairytale elements to create their own happily (or maybe unfortunately) ever after.

FILM CAMP: Let’s Make A Movie – 1pm-4pm – Let’s make a movie! This week campers will learn all the basics of filming a short film. We will storyboard our project and then write, act, and film our own short movie! The short film will be featured on the Community Arts Center Website, the Thalian association Youtube Channel, and then submitted into the Cucalorus Film Festival!

Week 3: July 6 – July 10

Galaxy Far Far Away – 9am-Noon – A long time ago in a Galaxy Far Far Away there were creative young campers that gathered for a week of fantastical fun! This week of camp will have a choreography focus where campers will learn how to stage combat their mortal enemy, Darth Vader!

Behind the Curtains of the Lion King– 1-4pm – Calling all Techies! The art of stagecraft will take over the next week on Second Street. This week we will be working closely with the cast of BOSS CAMP to prepare their costumes, makeup, props, and set for the production of The Lion King. Campers will be the official stage crew – running lights, sound, and set changes – for both evening shows!

*All campers are encouraged to be at both evening shows of the Lion King on July 10 & 11 at 7:00pm, campers will need to be backstage by 6:00pm. There will be a cast and crew party on Friday, July 10 from 4-6pm that campers can attend for $10.00

Rock and Roll Art Camp – 1-4pm – This music inspired art camp is for the musician in all of us. In this fun and crafty camp, all the art projects will be able to make music in some way. At the end of the week, we will form our Rock and Roll Art Band to create a song using our handmade instruments.

Week 4: July 13 – July 17

Villian Spotlight – 9am-NoonThis camp is for those that are willing to take the spotlight! Using our favorite Villian material, campers will take center stage in this acting and technique camp. Each camper will work on singing a Villian solo or performing an unforgettable monologue leaving all with the confidence to be the main event!

Magical Muggles– 1pm-4pmStill waiting for your Hogwarts letter? So are we! This craft camp will be for us muggles ready to learn some magic! Step onto platform 9 ¾ and travel to Hogwarts where we will make our own wands, play quidditch, craft potions and get sorted into Houses. Let the magic begin!      *Camp Director’s Favorite!

Week 5: July 20 – July 24

You’re the Next Contestant – 9am-Noon – You’re the Next Contestant will be an acting camp using popular talent shows to help guide the daily activities. Campers will learn how to audition in front of “judges” and how to think quickly on their feet using improv skills. Learn how to make strong character choices in this creative acting class to see if you have what it takes to be the next Creative Arts Camp Idol!

Behind the Curtains of Shrek Jr.– 1-4pm – Calling all Techies! The art of stagecraft will take over the next week on Second Street. This week we will be working closely with the cast of BOSS CAMP to prepare their costumes, makeup, props, and set for the production of Shrek Jr. Campers will be the official stage crew – running lights, sound, and set changes – for both evening shows!

*All campers are encouraged to be at both evening shows of Shrek Jr. on July 24 & 25 at 7:00pm, campers will need to be backstage by 6:00pm. There will be a cast and crew party on Friday, July 10 from 4-6pm that campers can attend for $10.00.

Orange Street Pottery Camp – 1-4pm We welcome campers to our 6th Summer of Pottery Camp! Campers will learn the basics of ceramics in this afternoon visual arts camp! All campers will create their very own completed piece of pottery that will be available for pick up 2 weeks after the conclusion of the camp.  Supply fee of $10. Due to COVID-19 this camp will no longer be offered this summer.

ArtSplosion: Big & Messy – 1pm-4pm Do you like learning new things? Do you like art? Do you like to get messy? Then this is the camp for you! We will spend the week learning and creating a daily project together. We will use everything from paint to mud, and all the messy things in between! Each day will be a new project that will be sent home at the end of the week.

Week 6: July 27 – July 31

Musical Theatre Mayhem – 9am-Noon – What will it take to give your performer a little more of an edge? Musical Theater is all about becoming a triple threat! This week we will work on SINGING, DANCING, and ACTING to give your Old Pro a little taste of what Musical Theatre is all about!

Art Basics: Visual Art Vairety Camp – 1-4pm This week of camp will be jam-packed with arts and crafts. Each day campers will learn a new visual art technique including drawing, painting, mixed media, sewing, photography, clay and more! Learn all the basics in just one week!

Week 7: August 3 – August 7

Dancing with the Stars – 9am-Noon – Working with local dance professionals,  this week of camp will allow non-dancers to learn the fundamentals of dancing for the stage and give the chance for experience dancers to work on their skills in a judgement free environment.

This week we will be working closely with the cast of BOSS CAMP to prepare their costumes, makeup, props, and set for the production of Camp Rock! Video Gamer Craft Week – 1pm-4pm – For the passionate video gamer that loves art, this is the camp for you. Kid Friendly Video Games will be the inspiration for all of our art projects as we explore a variety of materials and media. Let’s turn Creative Arts Camp into an ARTcade of our own!

Week 8: August 10 – August 14

TACT Audition Workshop – 9am-Noon –Campers will get a little taste of 2020-2021 season of TACT (Thalian Association Community Theatre) with songs and scenes from all the upcoming youth productions! This workshop style camp will give your performer tips on how to stand out in a dance callback, nail a cold Friday’s Show and Share will be an as entertaining as the season itself!

Comic Book Adventures – 1-4pm –Love to Draw? Love creating characters? This camp is for you! Campers will work on character development, make flip books, draw storyboards, and make their own comic books! Perfect for creative kids who like making stuff! Join for a week of fun and creativity!

Broadway on Second Street – Production Camps and Teen Workshops  (9am – 4pm)

 

This 2-week, full day camp will be an amazing opportunity for your performer to participate in a full children’s theater production from start to finish. We will have a limited number of spots available. The first day of camp will be your audition and parts will be assigned at the beginning of the 2nd day of camp.

Each day will consist of character development, music direction, choreography, staging and more. Teaming up with local theater professionals makes this is a unique opportunity for both seasoned actors and newcomers to learn from the very best. The final weekend production will be open to the public with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7pm.

PRE-SHOW TECHNICAL CAMP: June 22 – June 26 (ONE WEEK ONLY)

BOSS CAMP SCENE SHOP | Ages 11-17

For the first time in Creative Arts Camp history, campers will have a full-day, one-week experience that is all about building the set for a theatrical production. Campers will work with Thalian Association’s Technical Supervisor and Thalian Association’s Resident Stage Manager to design and build all the fundamental set pieces that will be used for the Summer 2020 BOSS Camp shows: TheLion King, Shrek Jr. and Camp Rock!

Session 1: June 29 – July 10

Disney’s The Lion King Jr. | Ages 7-15

The Lion King JR. tells the story of the epic adventures of a curious cub named Simba as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destiny as king. Along the way, the young lion encounters a colorful cast of characters including spunky lioness Nala, charismatic meerkat Timon, and loveable warthog Pumbaa. To claim his rightful place on the throne and save his beloved Pridelands, Simba must find his inner strength and confront his wicked Uncle Scar. The Lion King JR. features classic songs from the 1994 film such as “Hakuna Matata” and the Academy Award®-winning “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as well as additional songs penned for the Broadway production.

Session 2: July 13 – July 24

Shrek Jr. | Ages 8-16

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical.  It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.  Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Session 3: July 27 – August 7

Camp Rock | Ages 9-17

A classic story of rivalry and power, Disney’s Camp Rock The Musicalopens with Mitchie and her friends arriving at Camp Rock, ready to spend another summer jamming out and having the time of their lives. But the new, flashy Camp Star across the lake now threatens Camp Rock’s very existence. To keep the doors open, Mitchie steps up, rallies her fellow Camp Rockers and gets them into top shape for the ultimate showdown!

Shows Dates: Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8 at 7:00 pm

Session 4: August 10 – August 14 (ONE WEEK ONLY)

TEEN WEEK | 1 Week Only | Ages 11-17

This last session of BOSS camp is for our TEEN ACTORS and will run for one week only! The campers will have the choice of 3 plays/one acts that they will decide together on Monday and party will be assigned at the end of Day 1. With special guest instructors from local professionals this will be a truly unique opportunity for our older campers. Campers will not only be responsible for learning their lines but will also learn how to design a set, make props, build a costume plot, and all the fundamental functions of putting on a full production. Come ready to PLAY and LEARN!
