A little about Laurie Wood – our Dance workshop instructor…
Laurie Wood is so grateful to still be dancing & performing in her 60’s! She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in
Modern Dance rom the University of South Florida where she was awarded the Victoria Seldon Endowed
Scholarship for Excellence in Modern Dance Choreography and the Talent Award Scholarship for Modern Dance Performance. Laurie also earned her Master’s Degree & Doctorate Degree in Metaphysical Science from the University of Sedona. She has certifications in Pilates Post-Rehab, Massage Therapy, and Energy Work. Laurie enjoyed her many years dancing in Boulder, Colorado with dance companies who embraced mature dancers, like Nancy Cranbourne’s One Big Yes Productions, New Breed Dance Company, & Art as Action Dance Company (for dancers with & without Parkinson’s). Laurie grew up in Central Florida where she studied dance with Betsye Kay Finch, a former Rockette and Equity Actress. Laurie went on to dance professionally, choreograph, and stage manage for theatres, universities, dance companies, theme parks, and corporate industrials. She worked as a Staging Assistant for Disney/MGM Studios and Directed/Choreographed for SeaWorld Entertainment. Musical theatre choreography includes: West Side Story, Pippin, Joseph, King & I, Nunsense, Cabaret, It’s a Wonderful Life, Full Monty, 42nd Street, Godspell, Anything Goes, The Prom, & Guys & Dolls SR.
Laurie’s recent Solo Dance performances include: Forward Motion Dance Company’s Arts Sensation 2026 at Thalian Hall, and the Summer Variety Show at Unity Spiritual Center with her husband, David Potter, musician & singer/songwriter. They will both perform in their Ageless Dance Showcase 2026 with other 55+ performers.
Laurie is also performing for the annual Betsye Kay Finch Performing Arts Scholarship Fundraiser in Florida with other alumni dancers.
Laurie loves teaching her Ageless Dance Program and helping her students fulfill their life-long dreams of dancing & performing. She enjoys teaching the 55+ Dance Workshops at the CAC and Ageless Pilates Mat at The Dance Element Studio. Laurie is an advocate for loving & appreciating our bodies & moving with joy no matter our age!
It’s proven that dance is the BEST exercise, then we add music & community, and it becomes the BEST medicine.
Shows I have performed in include: Colorado Riders (Boardwalk & Baseball), More Than Magic (Cypress Gardens), Here Come the Muppets (Disney/MGM Studios), and the Dinosaur Parade (Disney/MGM Studios).
