Summer Exhibit: June 20, 2015 – August 15, 2015
LOCATION: Historic Hannah Block USO Building – 120 S 2nd St
This summer exhibit will be the kickoff of the Film Museum. Plans for the exhibit include:
- Admit 1: A brief history of our movie going past, highlighting Wilmington’s earliest movie theaters and venues through the 1950’s.
- Take 1: The birth of the film industry in North Carolina, and the varied role Wilmington had in film production from 1905 through 1983.
- Stage 1: Dino De Laurentiis and the creation of the largest film studio in the East, including first hand stories, photos, artifacts and more. The studio years covers 1984 through 1995.
- Walk with Me: Take a stroll downtown circa 1995, and learn more about movie locations and businesses that are a major part of our filmmaking history.
- Reel Carolina: The magazines and the stories that brought filmmaking news to everyone.
- Sneak Preview: A peek into next summer’s exhibit.
As a grassroots program, we want to build the museum from the ground up, utilizing as much local talent and support as we can to create a hands on, interactive museum that will be free to the public. We are currently seeking contributors, community partners, advisory council members, committee members, interns and volunteers. Anyone interested in being part of this grassroots project is invited.
