THE AUCTION
The online auction kicks off on November 13, 2023, featuring beautifully decorated tabletop Christmas trees. The trees will be on display in the Community Arts Center lobby for the next three weeks in November. Join us December 3, 2023, from 3pm to 4pm as we celebrate with Christmas cheer with cookies, hot chocolate, and the enchanting voices of the Community Arts Center Voices Choir. All proceeds will be dedicated to much-needed improvements at the Community Art Center, making this festive season even brighter for our community.
THE TREES FOR THE AUCTION
Feeling creative? Here’s your chance to shine! We will provide the tree for you to decorate and donate it to our online auction. Your task is to infuse it with your holiday spirit, decorations, and creativity, creating the most enchanting Christmas tree possible while supporting the Community Art Center. Swing by the Community Art Center during their operating hours (Mon-Thurs 9am–9pm, Fri 9am–5pm, Sat 9am–1pm) and pick up a tabletop Christmas tree – completely free of charge!
Ready for some friendly competition? You can even compete with your neighbors and promote your business through your tree’s design! Remember to return your masterpiece to the Community Art Center by November 10, 2023, and let the bidding wars begin! Who will claim the top bid? Get ready to have fun and decorate for the holidays with the Lighting The Way Christmas Tree Auction! The unique fundraiser is hosted by Thalian Association Community Theatre to benefit the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center.
The online auction, featuring beautifully decorated one-of-a-kind tabletop Christmas trees, runs from November 13 – December 3 at https://event.gives/thaliantrees. The trees were donated by area residents, community businesses, and organizations, and can also be viewed in the museum lobby of the Community Arts Center.
Everyone is invited to the grand finale, December 3rd, from 3 – 4pm, to celebrate Christmas cheer with cookies, hot chocolate, and the sounds of the season with Voices, the enchanting Community Arts Center Choir. The winning bidders will be announced after the concert, but you do not have to be present to win.
All proceeds will be dedicated to much-needed improvements at the Community Arts Center, beginning with replacement of the folding upholstered chairs for the auditorium. Join us in making this holiday season unforgettable. #LightingTheWay2023
The Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center is owned by the City of Wilmington and managed by Thalian Association Community Theatre. The building is a historic and cultural treasure that has been the center of recreation and art for generations of local children. Today the building continues to be the home for children, art, and recreation while serving as a mini museum of the Wilmington and New Hanover County WWII home front. The World War II Wilmington Home Front Heritage Coalition, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) preservation organization, is the de-facto preservationist of the building’s history and maintains the home front museum. Established in 1788, Thalian Association Community Theatre is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to enhancing the Cape Fear region through live community theatre and arts education. Thalian Association Community Theatre produces five major productions annually on the Tony Rivenbark Stage at historic Thalian Hall and professionally manages the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center for the City of Wilmington. The youth theatre program offers training and performance opportunities for children ages seven through high school seniors.
