Presents 2016 ARTfall Exhibition

Artist Reception October 15th 2 – 4 pm

WILMINGTON, NC – The Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center is proud to present the 2ND annual ARTfall, a juried exhibition featuring the work of new and established artists. The ARTfall Exhibition will be open to the public October 13 – 16, Thurs.. – Sat. 10 am – 5 pm and Sun. 1 pm – 5 pm with the artist’s reception and awards presentation Saturday October 15th from 2 pm – 4 pm. The public is invited to attend the reception with complimentary refreshments from Whole Foods, The Fresh Market and Apple Annie’s Bake Shop with a wine tasting courtesy of Silver Coast Winery. Entertainment will be provided by well-known pianist and composer Judson Hurd.           

ARTfall is one of the events of American Craft Walk Wilmington (ACWW), a celebration of visual and performing arts in Downtown Wilmington. ACWW is part of American Craft Week, a nationally established effort to build awareness of the arts, craft and culture. The walk will feature the work of juried artists in a six block radius on Front Street from Orange to Grace with exhibitors also on Princess and Dock Streets. Throughout the day performing art will be featured on Center Stage beside Slice of Life ending at 5 pm with a performance from Thalian Association Youth Theatre production Grease.  For more information and event schedule go to www.americancraftwalkwilmington.com.     

“We are thrilled with the positive response from artists and community residents to ARTfall after the inaugural year,” said Susan Habas Thalian Association Community Theatre Executive Director. “ARTfall is certain to become a popular local tradition like the springtime Orange Street Artsfest since it will be a permanent part of American Craft Walk Wilmington.”             

Fifty-five artists will exhibit their work in various mediums: acrylic, mixed media, oil, pastel, pencil, watercolor and photography. The artists for the inaugural ARTfall are:  Jennnifer Calfee, Bradley Carter, Andy Cobb, Elaine Cooper, Eleanor Davin, Jay DeChesere, Jeri Degener, Laurence Dixon, Doug Dupuis, Timothy Fitzgerald, Harriet M. Forbis, Aaron Friedman, Craig Hales, Roslyn Hancock, Zero Hartline, Jon Haug, Karen Hicks, Anita Jacques, Janet Johnson, Jeffrey P Karnes, Neal Keller, Will Kinzie, Lewi Kurtzman, Donna Launey, Ann Lees, Lale Lewis, Greg McCall, Joan McLoughlin, Randy McNamara, Pamela McNeill, Sara Meissner, Carolyn Colby Millis, Frances E. Mims, Sandy Nelson, Sheila Keefe Ortiz, Pete Paterson, Lori Joy Peterson, Lorena Redding, Nicole Roggeman, Lisa Foor Rojek, Barbara Salisbury, Dennis Schaefer, Jill Schulte, Janet Sessoms, Elizabeth R. ARTfall will be juried by long time Wilmington resident Owen Wexler, an internationally known visual artist and member of the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center Advisory Board whose work has been featured on TV and film. Prizes and awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners with a special People’s Choice Award.        

The Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center is owned by the City of Wilmington and managed by Thalian Association Community Theatre. The 75-year-old building is a historic and cultural treasure, and has been the center of recreation and art for generations of local children. Today the building continues to be the home for children, art and recreation while serving as a mini museum of the Wilmington and New Hanover County WWII home front. Established in 1788, Thalian Association Community Theatre is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to enhancing the Cape Fear region through live community theatre and arts education. Thalian Association Community Theatre produces five major productions annually on the Main Stage at historic Thalian Hall, four productions at the Red Barn Studio and five youth theatre productions on the 2nd Street Stage in the Community Arts Center. The youth theatre program offers training and performance opportunities for children age seven through high school seniors. In 2007, Thalian Association Community Theatre was designated North Carolina’s Official Community Theater by the state legislature. For more information, go to www.thalian.org.

2016 ARTfall Schedule

Friday—September 30th

  • Deadline for required online registration. Early registration is encouraged.
  • Jpeg(s) representation of artwork due with registration.

Monday—October 10th

  • Load In between 10am-1pm at assigned time slot.
  • Bring accepted 2D artwork to the HBHUSO/CAC ready for hanging
  • Artwork that is not properly wired for hanging will NOT be accepted
  • Artist will be able to reserve their time slot in advance

Thursday – Saturday—October 13th – 15th

  • Show Hours 10am-5pm
  • Admission FREE

Saturday—October 15th

  • Artist Reception from 2-4pm
  • Awards Presentation at 3pm

 Sunday—October 16th

  • Show Hours 1-5pm
  • Admission FREE
  • Artwork must remain on display until 5pm on Sunday

Monday October 17th

  • Unsold artwork must be picked up between 10am-9pm at assigned time slot
  • HBHUSO/CAC is not responsible for artwork left after 9pm on Monday.
  • Artist will be able to reserve their time slot in advance
