Sam Samantha Chappell – Camp Director and Instructor – This is my 7th year at Creative Arts Camp as Camp Director! Summer Camp is my FAVORITE time of year! I hope that campers will have fun through creative expression and learn to love the arts just like I do! Stacie Smith – Assistant Camp Director and Instructor- My name is Stacie Smith and I am so excited to be back at Creative Arts Camp again this year for my 6th summer. Camp is my favorite place to be during the summer, except for the beach! I have lots of experience working in the Wilmington Theater Community, both being onstage and behind it. During the school year I teach pre-school. I can’t wait to meet all our new campers and to see some familiar faces. See you all this summer!

Kaite Auletti-Smith – Instructor – My name is Katie Auletti-Smith and I am so excited to be teaching the choreography for Broadway on Second Street for a 6th year. I have been teaching/instructing dance classes for 12 years and I am Carolina Dance Masters certified. I love to teach kids of all ages and there is nothing better than watching a child’s face light up when they have accomplished something new.

Rebekah Carmichael – Instructor – Rebekah Carmichael is a producer, performer and playwright who resides in Wilmington part-time. Prior to the pandemic, she was still somewhat new in town, which made her credits somewhat limited. All in all, she can’t help but be proud of receiving Wilmington Theatre Awards for the 2018 Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Medium Alison in Fun Home and for the 2019 Best Original Production for Oedipus Wrecked which she produced, directed and played a small part in. While she’s been with TACT for a few years now, she was also very happy to have directed Shrek Jr. in 2020. Prior to being in Wilmington, Rebekah has produced and directed immersive theatre in Raleigh and Asheville, performed in the same cities as well as in a variety of straight plays and musicals in Washington DC and New York City.

Benedict Fancy – Instructor – My name is Benedict R. Fancy and I am the Performing Arts Technical Director at Cape Fear Academy where my high school students and I have designed and built the sets for over 75 shows! I am a freelance scenic designer here in Wilmington and received the 2015 Tina Award for Contributions to Technical Theatre, the recipient of the 2017 Thalian Association Award for Best Set Design for ‘Sweet Charity’ and am a three-time nominee and winner of the Star News Media Award for Best Set Design for Panache Theatrical Productions show ‘Lizzie – The Musical’! ! Locally, I have been designing shows for The Thalian Association and Panache Theatrical Productions for the last 10 years and am very excited to be running this year’s Scene Workshop BOSS camp! I can’t wait to start building and painting for our BOSS camp productions!

Courtney Harding – Instructor – Hello Campers! My name is Courtney Harding, and this is my 7th year as an instructor at Creative Arts Camp. I grew up in the area with a true passion for theatre! I was even a camper here in this building when I was younger! I’m now a theatre teacher at New Hanover High School by day and an actor/stage manager/director by night! I look forward to sharing my love of theatre with you all and can’t wait to get things started!!

Caleb Hector – Counselor / Instructor – Hey everyone! I am very excited to be a counselor for my 2nd summer! I started out attending the camps in the summer of 2016 and I loved it so much that I came back every summer until I became a Jr. counselor in 2019 and a counselor/instructor in 2020. Through the camp, I found out about the theatre community and fell in love with performing. I can’t wait to see everyone!!

Jacob Herrmann – Instructor – I’m a potter based in Wilmington N.C., a studio tech for Orange St Pottery and Cape Fear Community College, and Dad to a wonderful 3yr old daughter.  I enjoy sharing the endless potential of clay with all ages and skill levels. This will be my 3rd summer working with Creative Arts Campers.

Jessi Hoadley – Counselor – Hi! My name is Jessi Hoadley and I am honored to be one of your camp counselors this summer! I’m currently a rising sophomore at Western Carolina University studying to earn my BFA in Musical Theatre. I look forward to spending time with the kids and making this summer as fun as possible! I know I loved camp as a kid and can’t wait to be there this year as a counselor 🙂
Jen Iapalucci – BOSS Camp Costumer – This will be my 6th year as costumer for BOSS Camp, and it’s always one of the highlights of my summer! I believe theatre is a terrific experience for kids to build their confidence, engage in team-building, and enhance their social skills, and I’m honored to play a role in supporting their efforts.
Bethany Bethany Kessinger – Counselor – Bethany Kessinger is a 19 year old Wilmington native. She is currently a junior at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she is studying Arts Administration and Technical Theatre. She has been involved with Thalian Association since 2016 and has participated in a little over a dozen of their productions.
Susie Lukens – Instructor – I am a first-time instructor but long-time fan of the Creative Arts Camps and the Thalian Association. I am a Pre-K teacher in New Hanover county, and I look forward to working with the Munchkins this summer as we learn about theater, movement, visual arts, and musical expression. Before I became a teacher, I was an actress and singer in college and high school. Music and theater have always been an important part of how I express myself and connect with my family and friends, and I am excited to build those connections with kiddos at Creative Arts Camp this year!

Linsa Carlisle Markas – Instructor – Linda Carlisle Markas is a pianist, vocalist, actress and teacher. Linda discovered acting in 1987 in a Thalian Association production of “Oliver!” and has continued to be a part of the Wilmington theatre scene since then as an actress, musician, director and music director. As owner of Dancing Lion Music Works, she offers instruction in piano, voice and music theory for aspiring musicians of all ages and for the past school year she has been the music teacher at the Wilmington School of the Arts (go Seahorses!).

Kelsey Kelsey McCrary – Counselor and Instructor -Hey everyone! I am so excited to be able to spend my second summer in a row with you all! Last year was full of so many fun activities and memories and I can’t wait to see all that this summer has in store for us. I look forward to spending time with each of the kiddos and I just know we are going to have a blast together!

Julia Petersen – Counselor – My name is Julia and I am so excited to be working again this summer! I just graduated from Pender Early College High School and will be attending the University of North Carolina Greensboro in the fall. I have been doing Creative Arts Camp since I was a kid and been a junior counselor for the last two years. I can’t wait to work with everyone again!
 Georgie 2 Georgie Simon – Instructor – I am so excited for my 2nd summer at Creative Arts Camp! I moved to Wilmington in 2018 from New York. I have had a passion for theatre since I was five years old and have experience as a performer, director, general manager, and stage manager. You may have seen me in Thalian Association’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as the Narrator and Elf the Musical as Deb, the wacky secretary or at the CAC teaching TACT Academy. Most recently, I won the Star News Wilmington Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical for Lizzie the Musical. I can’t wait to make some magic with my campers this summer!

 Noelle Noelle Smith – Counselor – Noelle Smith is so excited to be a part of the Creative Arts Camp team! Noelle has been doing theatre in Wilmington for 10 years. You might have seen her in Alice in Wonderland as Alice, Mamma Mia as Sophie at Ashley High School, and Godspell as a featured soloist. Noelle has also plays Anna and the Unicorn Princess for a party company! Noelle can’t wait for this experience and share the love of theatre with young minds!
CathyStreet Cathy Street – Instructor – This is my 6th summer at Creative Arts Camp and I am so excited to be back! When I was 11, I started performing in the arts and it changed my life so arts education has always been incredibly important to me.  I was shy and performing helped me find my voice and a way to express myself and I am passionate about inspiring others to do the same.   I believe in creating a supportive and nurturing environment for young people to develop their skills.  I live in Wilmington with my husband, JJ, and two ‘kids’; pug, Alex, and  Siamese cat, Raja.  I can’t wait to work with you all this summer! www.cathystreet.me

Carolyn Witkowski – Instructor – I’m Carolyn Witkowski; teacher, artist, potter. I have worked with children my whole life. I retired from the NHCS school system in 2016 after 25 years of teaching kindergarten and first grade. I currently teach art to children in my home studio and am the studio assistant at Orange Street Pottery. I love dogs, my family, being outdoors, playing with my grandson and teaching kids!

 Josh Z 2 Josh Zieseniss- Instructor – My name is Josh, this is my third year with Creative Arts Camp and I am ecstatic to be back!. I have been working with Thalian Association and The Community Arts Center for the better part of 5 years. I am the Resident Stage Manager for Thalian Association which means I oversee and administrate the tech side of almost every production!  I also design lights and sound for shows. I am  the recipient of the 2015 Tina Award for Technical Achievement, the 2016 TACT Artistic Directors Award, 2017-18 Winner of Best Lighting Design for the Bridges of Madison County. I can’t wait to meet and have some fun with all the up and coming technicians of Wilmington!

Jr. Counselor Summer 2021

Riley Moore – Jr. Counselor – Hey! I’m Riley and this will be my 3rd consecutive year working with the summer camps here! I’ve done quite a few of these camps when I was younger, and they were some of the best times I’ve ever had. This is truly my favorite time of the year, and this year will mean a lot considering I’m entering my senior year of high school next year at New Hanover. I’m looking forward to seeing and meeting all the campers this summer, as I get ready to start applying for colleges this fall, hoping to major in the arts!
